Conrad and Hobbes
The wicked-looking one in the foreground is Conrad, named after Joseph Conrad, my favorite writer. The black-and-white one is Hobbes, who was named, before I adopted him, for Hobbes from the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, and not necessarily for the English political philosopher Thomas Hobbes. Though he is, sometimes, nasty, brutish, and short, ho ho. And if he keeps eating the way he does, someday he's going to be a Leviathan, ho ho ho.
